Ingredients

Units Scale

Tofu:

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu (14 ounces, pressed and cubed)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar

Garnish:

  • 2 green onions (sliced, for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven/Air Fryer: Preheat your oven to 400°F or air fryer to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper if using the oven.
  2. Prepare Tofu: Pat the tofu dry and cut into bite-sized cubes. Toss the tofu cubes in cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated. Spread on the baking sheet and drizzle with oil, or place directly in the air fryer basket. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes (air fry for 15 to 18 minutes), flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  3. Make Bang Bang Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together vegan mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, maple syrup, and rice vinegar to make the bang bang sauce.
  4. Coat Tofu: Once tofu is cooked, toss immediately with the sauce until coated.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • This tofu is best served immediately for maximum crispiness.
  • Pair with rice, noodles, or lettuce wraps.
  • For a lighter version, reduce the mayo and add a splash of lime juice to the sauce.
