Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box devil’s food cake mix
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (for ganache)
  • Cherries (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix, cherry pie filling, eggs, and almond extract until well combined.
  3. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. To make the ganache, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over dark chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  7. Pour the ganache over the cooled cake and spread evenly.
  8. Garnish with cherries if desired. Let set before serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
  • Ganache can be chilled slightly for a thicker consistency before spreading.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
