For the Cabbage:

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • Water for boiling
  • Salt to taste

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Cheese Layer:

  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Additional:

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cabbage: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Boil a large pot of water with salt. Add the whole cabbage head and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the leaves carefully and set aside.
  2. Make the Meat Sauce: In a skillet, brown the ground beef with onions and garlic. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, mix ricotta, Parmesan, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna: In a baking dish, layer cabbage leaves, meat sauce, cheese mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with a layer of cabbage and mozzarella on top.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  6. Serve: Let it cool slightly, garnish with fresh basil, and enjoy!
