Ingredients
UnitsScale
3–4lbs beef brisket
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2cup brown sugar
1/2cup beef broth
1/4cup soy sauce
1/4cup balsamic vinegar
1/4cup ketchup
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, then transfer to a roasting pan or slow cooker.
In the same skillet, sauté onions until soft and caramelized, then add garlic and cook for another minute.
In a bowl, mix brown sugar, beef broth, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and chili flakes if using.
Pour the sauce mixture and sautéed onions over the brisket.
Cover tightly with foil (or the lid if using a slow cooker) and cook in the oven for 3.5 to 4 hours, or in a slow cooker on low for 8 hours, until the meat is tender and shreds easily.
Remove the brisket and shred with two forks. Return shredded meat to the sauce and mix well to coat.
Optional: Broil the shredded brisket on a baking sheet for 5-7 minutes for caramelized edges before serving.
Notes
Can be made a day in advance for even better flavor.
Perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or served over mashed potatoes.
