Description
A rich and flavorful pulled beef brisket recipe with a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors, slow-cooked until melt-in-your-mouth tender and caramelized to perfection.
Ingredients
- 3-4 lbs beef brisket
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, then transfer to a roasting pan or slow cooker.
- In the same skillet, sauté onions until soft and caramelized, then add garlic and cook for another minute.
- In a bowl, mix brown sugar, beef broth, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and chili flakes if using.
- Pour the sauce mixture and sautéed onions over the brisket.
- Cover tightly with foil (or the lid if using a slow cooker) and cook in the oven for 3.5 to 4 hours, or in a slow cooker on low for 8 hours, until the meat is tender and shreds easily.
- Remove the brisket and shred with two forks. Return shredded meat to the sauce and mix well to coat.
- Optional: Broil the shredded brisket on a baking sheet for 5-7 minutes for caramelized edges before serving.
Notes
- Can be made a day in advance for even better flavor.
- Perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or served over mashed potatoes.
- Leftovers freeze well for up to 3 months.
