For the strawberries:
1 1/2pounds fresh strawberries (hulled and sliced)
1/4cup granulated sugar

2/3cup whole milk

1cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions
Prepare the strawberries: Toss sliced strawberries with sugar and set aside to macerate for at least 30 minutes.
Make the shortcakes: Preheat oven. Whisk together dry ingredients, cut in butter, add wet ingredients, form dough, cut into rounds, and bake.
Whip the cream: Beat cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
Assemble: Slice shortcakes, top with strawberries and cream, and finish with more cream and strawberries.
Notes
For extra flavor, add lemon zest to the shortcake dough.
