  • 4 cups fresh strawberries (hulled and halved)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: coarse sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare Strawberries: Toss strawberries with ¼ cup sugar and lemon juice. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Make Batter: Whisk flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add melted butter, milk, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
  4. Assemble: Pour batter into dish, top with strawberries. Do not stir.
  5. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly. Optionally, add coarse sugar on top for crunch during the last 5 minutes.
  6. Serve: Let cool for 10–15 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • You can use frozen strawberries (thawed and drained) if fresh aren’t available.
  • Add raspberries or blueberries for variety.
