Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with this festive Brownie Trifle featuring layers of rich chocolate brownies, creamy chocolate pudding, and fluffy whipped topping, adorned with green sprinkles and semi-sweet chocolate chips for a delightful and visually appealing dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Layer

  • Brownie mix (or homemade equivalent to one 8×8 inch pan)

Pudding Layer

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix (about 3.9 oz)

Topping and Garnish

  • 1 cup whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
  • Green sprinkles, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon mint extract (to add to pudding mix for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Bake Brownies: Prepare the brownie mix according to package instructions or your homemade recipe. Pour into the greased pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow brownies to cool completely before assembling.
  3. Prepare Pudding: In a bowl, whisk together the whole milk and instant chocolate pudding mix for about 2 minutes until the mixture thickens. If desired, add mint extract to the pudding for a festive flavor. Set aside to let it fully thicken.
  4. Cut Brownies: Once cooled, cut the brownies into small squares suitable for layering.
  5. Assemble Trifle – First Layer: In a trifle bowl or clear glass serving dish, start by layering half of the brownie squares evenly on the bottom. Spoon half of the prepared pudding evenly over the brownies, then spread half of the whipped topping on top.
  6. Assemble Trifle – Second Layer: Repeat the layering with the remaining brownie squares, pudding, and whipped topping, creating a second layer.
  7. Add Garnishes: Finish the trifle by sprinkling green sprinkles and semi-sweet chocolate chips over the top layer of whipped topping for decoration and added texture.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and to serve chilled for best taste.

Notes

  • Ensure the brownies are completely cooled before layering to prevent melting the whipped topping.
  • Use a clear glass bowl for a beautiful presentation of the trifle layers.
  • Mint extract is optional but enhances the festive green theme with a complementary flavor.
  • You can substitute whole milk with a milk alternative, but consistency of pudding may vary.
  • Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and consume within 2-3 days for best freshness.
