  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons honey

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil
  • Additional 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and honey until smooth. Pour wet ingredients into the dry and stir until just combined.
  3. Frying: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of batter and carefully drop into the hot oil. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Honey Butter Glaze: Mix softened butter and honey in a bowl. Brush the warm poppers with the glaze before serving.
