Description

A quick and easy 30-minute Sloppy Joes recipe made with ground beef and a tangy, sweet tomato-based sauce served on toasted buns. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer the mixture for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
  • Can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
