- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.
- Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the mixture for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
- Can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
