Ingredients

Units Scale

For the beef patties:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the mushroom gravy:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cook the beef patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the mushroom gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter and add sliced onion and mushrooms. Cook for 5–6 minutes, until softened and golden. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring until thickened.
  4. Finish the dish: Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over the top. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease.
  • For a deeper flavor, add a splash of red wine to the gravy.
  • This dish also freezes well for meal prep.
