For the beef patties:
1pound ground beef
1/3cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the mushroom gravy:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
8ounces mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Instructions
Prepare the beef patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 4 oval patties.
Cook the beef patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Make the mushroom gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter and add sliced onion and mushrooms. Cook for 5–6 minutes, until softened and golden. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring until thickened.
Finish the dish: Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over the top. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
Notes
Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease.
For a deeper flavor, add a splash of red wine to the gravy.
