Description

A festive and colorful dessert made with white cake, berry gelatin, and whipped topping, perfect for patriotic holidays like the Fourth of July.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • 1 package (3 oz) strawberry or cherry gelatin
  • 1 package (3 oz) berry blue gelatin
  • 2 cups boiling water (1 cup per gelatin flavor)
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced (optional, for garnish)
  • Fresh blueberries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and bake the white cake according to the package instructions in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Let it cool for about 15 minutes.
  2. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cake about 1 inch apart.
  3. In separate bowls, dissolve the red and blue gelatin each in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved.
  4. Spoon the red gelatin into half of the holes and the blue gelatin into the other half. Pour slowly to allow the gelatin to absorb.
  5. Refrigerate the cake for at least 3-4 hours or until completely chilled and set.
  6. Spread the whipped topping evenly over the cake.
  7. Garnish with fresh strawberries and blueberries if desired.
  8. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Make sure the cake is slightly cooled before poking holes and adding gelatin.
  • Refrigerating overnight can enhance the flavor and make slicing easier.
  • Use sugar-free gelatin for a lighter version.
