Ingredients

Units Scale

Egg Mixture:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin purée
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • pinch of salt

Additional:

  • 8 slices brioche or challah bread (about 3/4-inch thick)
  • butter or oil for cooking
  • maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, pumpkin purée, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until smooth.
  2. Cooking: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil. Dip each slice of bread into the pumpkin mixture, letting it soak for a few seconds on each side. Place soaked bread on the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Serving: Repeat with remaining slices. Serve warm with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Day-old bread works best as it holds up better during soaking.
  • You can add chopped pecans or a dollop of whipped cream for extra flair.
