For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Casserole:

  • 12 ounces uncooked rotini or penne pasta
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2025 slices pepperoni
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional: red pepper flakes and chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook the pasta: Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the meat sauce: In a skillet, cook the onion, garlic, and ground beef until browned. Add marinara/pizza sauce, seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Combine pasta and sauce: Mix the cooked pasta with the meat sauce in a bowl.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Layer half of the pasta mixture in a baking dish, top with cheeses, add remaining pasta mixture, and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Arrange pepperoni slices on top.
  6. Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until bubbly. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with red pepper flakes or parsley.

Notes

  • You can mix in chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives for extra flavor.
  • To make ahead, assemble and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
