Ingredients:
2 Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 8 slices each)
2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
1cup unsalted butter
1 1/2cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (12-ounce) can lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite or 7Up)
nonstick spray for greasing
Instructions
Preheat the oven and prepare the baking dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Wrap apples in dough: Wrap each apple slice in a crescent roll triangle and place seam-side down in the baking dish.
Prepare the butter sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, add sugar and vanilla, stir until dissolved, then pour over the dumplings.
Add soda and bake: Pour the lemon-lime soda around the dumplings, sprinkle with cinnamon, and bake until golden brown and bubbly.
Cool and serve: Let the dumplings cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
For a crispier top, bake uncovered the entire time; for softer dumplings, tent with foil halfway through.
