1 loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
1lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 onion, sliced
1cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1cup provolone cheese, sliced or shredded
2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced steak and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add onions, peppers, and mushrooms (if using). Sauté until softened.
Return steak to the skillet and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
Spread mayonnaise over each half of the bread if using.
Evenly distribute the steak and vegetable mixture over the bread halves.
Top with mozzarella and provolone cheese.
Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10–15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Slice and serve warm.
Notes
Use provolone or American cheese for a more traditional Philly cheesesteak flavor.
To make slicing easier, partially freeze the steak before cutting.
