Ingredients

Units Scale

Steak:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces

Pasta:

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (smoky or hickory style)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 ounces uncooked penne pasta
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add steak pieces and sear until browned but not fully cooked. Set aside.
  2. Add onion to the pot and cook until softened. Stir in garlic, then add beef broth, barbecue sauce, honey, smoked paprika, black pepper, and pasta. Bring to a boil, then simmer until pasta is al dente.
  3. Return steak to the pot, cook briefly, then stir in heavy cream and cheddar cheese until creamy. Let it rest before serving. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • Use a smoky or hickory-style BBQ sauce for the best flavor.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes.
  • Swap the sirloin with ribeye or strip steak if desired.
