Wet Ingredients:
1/2cup unsalted butter, softened
1cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4cup buttermilk
Instructions
Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.

Roll and cut dough: Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into circles using a cookie cutter.
Bake: Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden.
Cool and serve: Let cool on the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For a softer texture, avoid overbaking.
You can dust with powdered sugar or frost lightly for extra sweetness.
