Description

A fiery, flavorful Southern-style hot sauce that’s perfect for coating fried chicken or adding a spicy kick to your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup hot frying oil (or vegetable oil)

Instructions

  1. In a medium heatproof bowl, combine cayenne pepper, brown sugar, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, and salt.
  2. Carefully add the hot frying oil (or heated vegetable oil) to the spice mixture. Stir until well combined into a thick, spicy paste-like sauce.
  3. Brush or pour the sauce over freshly fried chicken, or use as a spicy dip or sandwich spread.
  4. Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Use caution when handling hot oil; allow it to cool slightly before mixing with spices.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to control heat level.
  • Try adding a dash of pickle juice or vinegar for tanginess.
