Must-Try Labor Day Cocktails

A vibrant and refreshing cocktail featuring tequila, orange juice, and grenadine, layered to resemble a sunrise.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 4 oz fresh orange juice
  • 0.5 oz grenadine syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slice and maraschino cherry (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice cubes.
  2. Pour in the tequila, then the fresh orange juice.
  3. Slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon down the side of the glass so it sinks and settles at the bottom.
  4. Let the grenadine slowly rise to create a layered “sunrise” effect.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
  6. Serve with a stirrer, and stir gently just before drinking to blend flavors.

Notes

  • For best results, use chilled orange juice and tequila.
  • Experiment with flavored tequila (like reposado) to add depth.
  • To make it non-alcoholic, omit the tequila and increase orange juice, or substitute with sparkling water or ginger ale.
  • Use grenadine syrup—not cocktail mix—for authentic color and flavor.
