Ingredients
Scale
Noodles
- 12 ounces noodles such as lo mein, spaghetti, or rice noodles
Beef and Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water or beef broth
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Vegetables & Garnish
- 1 cup sliced green onions
- 2 cups shredded cabbage or bok choy (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the Noodles: Prepare the noodles according to the package directions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside to keep warm.
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for about 30 seconds, stirring frequently, until fragrant but not browned.
- Cook the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it is browned and cooked through with no pink remaining.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water or beef broth until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well combined.
- Combine Beef and Sauce: Pour the sauce mixture over the cooked ground beef, stirring to coat the meat evenly and allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Toss Noodles and Vegetables: Add the cooked noodles, sliced green onions, and shredded cabbage or bok choy if using to the skillet. Toss everything together and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the vegetables to soften slightly.
- Season and Garnish: Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired. Remove from heat and sprinkle sesame seeds on top before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, marinate the ground beef in soy sauce and ginger for 15 minutes before cooking.
- You can substitute ground chicken or turkey for a leaner protein option.
- Adjust the sweetness and saltiness by modifying the amount of brown sugar or soy sauce to your taste.
