For the Pound Cake:
1pound (2 cups) unsalted butter, softened
3cups granulated sugar
6 large eggs
4cups all-purpose flour
3/4cup whole milk
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
Instructions
Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube or bundt pan.
Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth and fluffy. Gradually add the sugar, beating well after each addition.
Add Eggs and Mix: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each.
Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Alternate adding the flour and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix just until combined after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract, if using.
Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
This rich, buttery pound cake is perfect on its own or topped with fresh berries and whipped cream.
For best results, use room temperature ingredients and don’t overmix once the flour is added.
It stores well tightly wrapped at room temperature for several days.
