Instructions
Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
Prepare dry ingredients: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
Combine wet ingredients: In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with the flour, mixing until just combined.
Create chocolate batter: Divide the batter into two bowls. Mix cocoa powder with hot water until smooth, then stir into one bowl of batter to create the chocolate portion.
Assemble cupcakes: Spoon vanilla and chocolate batter alternately into cupcake liners. Swirl the batters together with a toothpick to create a marble effect.
Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
