Description

Delicious and comforting lasagna roll-ups featuring tender lasagna noodles rolled with a creamy ricotta and meat sauce filling, baked to bubbly perfection with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. Perfect for a family dinner or special occasion, this recipe combines classic Italian flavors in an easy-to-serve format.

Ingredients

Scale

Lasagna Roll-Ups

  • 12 sheets lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 cups marinara sauce, divided
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook Noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain the noodles and lay them flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Meat Sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5 to 7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in 1 cup of marinara sauce and let simmer for a few minutes to meld flavors.
  3. Assemble Roll-Ups: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Take one lasagna noodle and spread 2 to 3 tablespoons of ricotta cheese along its length. Add a spoonful of the meat sauce on top, then roll it up tightly. Place the roll seam-side down in the baking dish. Repeat with the remaining noodles.
  4. Bake: Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly over the assembled roll-ups in the baking dish. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  5. Serve: Remove from oven and let the lasagna roll-ups cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh basil if desired, and enjoy your flavorful Italian dish!

Notes

  • For best results, cook lasagna noodles just until al dente to avoid overcooking during baking.
  • Use fresh basil for authentic flavor or substitute with dried basil if needed.
  • Leftover roll-ups can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, bake covered at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.
  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter option.
