Ingredients

Units Scale

Ground Beef:

  • 1 pound ground beef

Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

To Serve:

  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • Steamed vegetables for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Push the beef to one side and add the sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, then stir to combine with the beef.
  3. Add Sauce: Add soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  4. Finish and Serve: Remove from heat and stir in sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve the beef mixture over a bed of rice with steamed vegetables if desired.

Notes

  • For a low-carb version, serve over cauliflower rice.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
