4.6 from 8 reviews

Irish Potato Candy is a delightful no-bake treat that resembles tiny potatoes but is made with cream cheese, coconut, and cinnamon. These sweet and creamy bite-sized candies are perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day or as a unique dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the candy:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the candy mixture: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and cream cheese. Add vanilla extract and mix well. Gradually add powdered sugar until a dough forms. Stir in shredded coconut.
  2. Shape the candy: Roll the mixture into small balls. Roll each ball in cinnamon until coated.
  3. Chill and serve: Place candies on a baking sheet, refrigerate for 1 hour, then serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Despite the name, Irish Potato Candy contains no actual potatoes and is a Philadelphia tradition.
  • Try rolling the candies in cocoa powder or adding chopped nuts for variation.
