Description

These Homemade Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls combine the classic gooey cinnamon roll experience with a fresh strawberry twist. Soft, fluffy dough is layered with strawberry jam, fresh strawberries, cinnamon, and brown sugar before being rolled up and baked to golden perfection. Finished with a sweet vanilla glaze, these rolls delight every bite and make a perfect breakfast or dessert treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling

  • 1 cup strawberry jam or preserves
  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active and ready to use.
  2. Prepare the dough: Add melted butter, egg, sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour until a soft dough forms. This may require stirring and then kneading to combine all ingredients well.
  3. Knead and rise: Knead the dough for 5 to 6 minutes on a floured surface until elastic and smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  4. Roll out and add filling: Roll the risen dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface, then layer strawberry jam, finely chopped fresh strawberries, brown sugar, and cinnamon evenly on top.
  5. Form the rolls: Roll the dough tightly from one edge into a log shape. Cut the log into 9 to 12 equal rolls. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover them loosely, and let them rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
  6. Bake the rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown on top.
  7. Prepare and apply glaze: While the rolls are baking, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. Once the rolls are warm from the oven, drizzle the glaze over the top generously to finish.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with bread flour.
  • Fresh strawberries add a lovely texture contrast but can be omitted in favor of extra jam if preferred.
  • If the glaze is too thick, add more milk one teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed warm on the day they are baked but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat before serving to refresh the softness of the rolls.
