Description

These Healthy Ground Turkey Tacos are a lighter twist on a classic favorite, featuring lean turkey and fresh toppings in soft or hard taco shells. Perfect for a quick and nutritious weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 avocado, sliced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt or light sour cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground turkey, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Add tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  6. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.
  7. Fill each tortilla with the turkey mixture and top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, cilantro, avocado, and Greek yogurt or sour cream as desired.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey with ground chicken or beef if preferred.
  • For extra spice, add a pinch of cayenne or hot sauce to the turkey mixture.
  • Use whole wheat or low-carb tortillas for a healthier option.
