Description

This Healthy Ground Turkey Sweet Potato Bake is a nutritious and flavorful one-dish meal combining lean ground turkey with roasted sweet potatoes and aromatic spices. Perfectly seasoned with cumin and paprika, roasted then baked to meld the flavors, this recipe offers a wholesome, comforting dinner option that’s both satisfying and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for roasting the sweet potatoes.
  2. Roast Sweet Potatoes: Toss the diced sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread them evenly on a baking sheet and roast for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even cooking and caramelization.
  3. Cook Ground Turkey: While the sweet potatoes roast, heat a skillet over medium heat and add a bit of olive oil. Add the ground turkey and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and fully cooked through.
  4. Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the cooked turkey. Sauté for 2–3 minutes until the onion softens and becomes fragrant.
  5. Season: Stir in cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper to the turkey and onion mixture, blending well to coat the meat with spices.
  6. Assemble and Bake: Transfer the roasted sweet potatoes to a baking dish. Layer the seasoned ground turkey mixture on top. Place the dish back into the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes to meld the flavors together.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and garnish with freshly chopped cilantro if desired. Serve warm as a satisfying and healthy meal.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of chili powder or smoked paprika.
  • To make it a complete meal, serve with a side salad or steamed green veggies.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • Sweet potatoes should be diced evenly to ensure they roast evenly.
  • Using fresh garlic and onion will enhance the flavor of the dish.
