  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • vegetable oil for frying

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 68 dried red chilies (optional for heat)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Coat and Fry the Chicken: In a medium bowl, coat the chicken pieces in cornstarch, then dip them in the beaten eggs. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the chicken until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Make the Sauce: Whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, chicken broth, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Cook garlic, ginger, and chilies in a skillet, then add the sauce mixture and cook until thickened.
  3. Combine and Serve: Toss the fried chicken in the sauce, cooking briefly to coat. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, bake or air-fry the chicken instead of deep frying.
  • Serve over steamed rice or with stir-fried vegetables.
  • Adjust chili quantity for desired spice level.
