  • 1 pound cleaned squid (tubes and tentacles), sliced into 1/2-inch rings

Coating:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

For Frying and Serving:

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges
  • Marinara sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and Dry: Rinse the squid under cold water and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.
  2. Prepare Coating: In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F.
  4. Dredge and Fry: Coat squid in the flour mixture, shake off excess, and fry in batches until golden.
  5. Drain and Serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove calamari, drain on paper towels, and serve hot with lemon wedges and marinara if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-dip the squid in the flour mixture.
  • Be careful not to overcook—calamari turns rubbery when overdone.
