Main Scone Ingredients:
2cups all-purpose flour
1/3cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon orange zest
1/2cup cold unsalted butter (cubed)
2/3cup heavy cream
1 large egg
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the orange glaze:
1cup powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the scone dough: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk together cream, egg, orange juice, and vanilla. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and stir just until a soft dough forms.
Shape and bake: Turn the dough onto a floured surface, pat into a circle, cut into wedges, and place on the baking sheet. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
Make the orange glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest. Drizzle over warm or cooled scones before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add dried cranberries or mini chocolate chips to the dough.
These scones freeze well—just thaw and reheat before glazing.
