Units Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round or square cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
  4. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • This cake is a perfect complement to a hot cup of coffee or tea.
  • Enhance the flavor with a splash of rum or almond extract for a regional twist.
