Description

These Famous Cream Puffs are a classic dessert featuring light and airy choux pastry filled with rich, creamy custard or whipped cream and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Add flour all at once and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. In a bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  8. Slice the cooled puffs in half horizontally and fill with whipped cream.
  9. Replace tops and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute the whipped cream with custard or pastry cream if desired.
  • Store cream puffs in the refrigerator and serve within 24 hours for best results.
  • Make sure puffs are completely cool before filling to prevent the cream from melting.
