- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream (for filling)
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (plus more for dusting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Add flour all at once and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- In a bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Slice the cooled puffs in half horizontally and fill with whipped cream.
- Replace tops and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute the whipped cream with custard or pastry cream if desired.
- Store cream puffs in the refrigerator and serve within 24 hours for best results.
- Make sure puffs are completely cool before filling to prevent the cream from melting.
