Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the strawberries: In a bowl, toss the strawberries with 1/2 cup sugar and lemon juice. Let sit for 10 minutes to draw out the juices.
  3. Make the batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, melted butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Assemble: Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch baking dish. Spoon the strawberries and their juices evenly over the batter without stirring. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar over the top.
