Ingredients
Scale
Apples:
4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
Seasonings:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon lemon juice
pinch of salt
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced apples and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Stir to coat the apples evenly. Continue cooking for 5–7 more minutes, or until the apples are tender but not mushy, and the sauce is slightly thickened.
Serve warm as a side dish, topping, or dessert.
Notes
Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
These apples are perfect over pancakes, oatmeal, or ice cream.
For a thicker sauce, add 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water in the last few minutes of cooking.
