Ingredients

Units Scale

Plum Jam:

  • 2 pounds ripe plums, pitted and chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Cooking the Jam: Place the chopped plums, sugar, lemon juice, and water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 25–30 minutes, stirring frequently, until the fruit breaks down and the jam thickens. Use a potato masher or immersion blender if you prefer a smoother texture.
  2. Testing for Doneness: To test if the jam is ready, place a small spoonful on a chilled plate and run your finger through it; if it leaves a clear line, it’s done.
  3. Storage: Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Pour into sterilized jars and seal. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or process in a water bath canner for long-term storage.

Notes

  • You can adjust sugar to taste depending on the sweetness of your plums.
  • For added flavor, stir in a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla extract before removing from heat.
