- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar.
- Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead for a minute or two.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in the prepared pan.
- Make a deep cross on top of the dough with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

- For a crustier bread, you can bake it directly on a baking sheet instead of in a pan.
