Units Scale

Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For Finishing:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: Add the softened butter, egg, and salt, and mix to combine. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead and Rise: Knead the dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth. Let it rise until doubled in size, then shape into rolls.
  4. Final Rise and Bake: Let the rolls rise again, then bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Brush with Butter: Brush the warm rolls with melted butter before serving.

Notes

  • For a softer texture, use whole milk.
  • Refrigerate the dough overnight for convenience.
  • Try sprinkling sea salt or herbs on top before baking.
