3/4cup granulated sugar

1/2cup sour cream

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
Prepare the dates mixture: Place chopped dates in a bowl, pour hot espresso over them, let sit for 10 minutes, then mash slightly with a fork.
Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
Prepare wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in date-espresso mixture and sour cream.
Combine and bake: Fold in dry ingredients and walnuts, pour batter into pan. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon for topping, sprinkle over batter. Bake for 35–40 minutes, then cool before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a splash of coffee liqueur to the date mixture.
