Ingredients

Units Scale

Cake:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Toppings:

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • optional toppings like whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crockpot: Spray the inside of a 6-quart crockpot with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Mix the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cake mix, pudding mix, milk, sour cream, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: Pour the batter into the prepared crockpot and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the batter.
  4. Cook: Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the edges are set and the center is gooey but not raw. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to prevent heat loss.
  5. Serve: Once done, turn off the heat and let it sit for 10–15 minutes before serving warm with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

Notes

  • For extra richness, use dark chocolate chips or a combination of milk and semisweet chips.
  • This dessert is best served warm straight from the crockpot but can be reheated in the microwave.
