Apples:
6lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
Sugars:
3cups granulated sugar
2cups brown sugar, packed
Spices:
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
Additional:
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2cup apple cider or water
Instructions
Prep Apples: Place prepared apples into the crockpot.
Add Ingredients: Add sugars, spices, salt, and apple cider. Stir to combine.
Cook: Cover and cook on low for 10–12 hours, stirring occasionally, until apples are very soft and dark brown.
Blend: Remove lid and blend apple mixture until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
Thicken: Continue cooking uncovered on low for 1–2 hours to thicken.
Canning: Ladle hot apple butter into jars, leaving space. Process in a boiling water bath canner for 10 minutes.
Cool: Allow jars to cool undisturbed for 12–24 hours.
Notes
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
Apple butter will thicken as it cools.
Store sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to a year. Refrigerate after opening.
