Ingredients

Units Scale

Pasta:

  • 12 oz pasta (penne, rigatoni, or spaghetti)

Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Garnish:

  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and drain the rest.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion until translucent, then add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10-12 minutes.
  3. Add Cream and Cheese: Reduce heat to low and stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. Use reserved pasta water as needed to loosen the sauce.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh basil and extra Parmesan before serving.

Notes

  • You can add sautéed spinach, grilled chicken, or shrimp for extra protein.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or coconut milk for the heavy cream.
