Description

This Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Skillet is a quick and easy dinner recipe featuring tender chicken breasts cooked to perfection and smothered in a rich, creamy garlic Parmesan sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, this comforting dish combines classic flavors with a silky sauce, making it a perfect weeknight meal for the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 chicken breasts, cut in half lengthwise
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or dry white wine
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create thinner pieces for quicker cooking. Season both sides of the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder evenly to infuse flavor.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the seasoned chicken breasts and sear until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-6 minutes per side depending on thickness. Once cooked, remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce: In the same skillet with the remaining butter and pan drippings, add flour and minced garlic. Cook for about 1 minute to form a roux and to release garlic aroma. Gradually whisk in chicken broth (or dry white wine) and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in freshly grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  4. Finish the Dish: Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet and spoon the creamy sauce over the top. Let them warm together for 1-2 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving for a bright, fresh finish.

Notes

  • Use chicken broth or dry white wine interchangeably based on preference or availability.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or whole milk, though sauce will be less thick.
  • Ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
  • Adding mushrooms or spinach to the sauce can add extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Serve over pasta, rice, or with steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
