For the Cake:

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 3/4cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1cup whole milk
For the Caramel Frosting:
1cup unsalted butter
2cups packed light brown sugar
1/2cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3–4cups powdered sugar (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
Prepare the cake: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla. Alternate adding flour mixture and milk, then divide batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes.
Make the frosting: In a saucepan, melt butter, add brown sugar, cream, and vanilla. Beat in powdered sugar until thick and creamy.
Finish the cake: Frost the cooled cake layers and spread frosting evenly. Allow to set slightly before slicing.
