Cream Cheese Frosting:
8oz (1 block) cream cheese, softened
1/2cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3 1/2 to 4cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of salt
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.
Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and beat again until fully incorporated. Adjust the consistency with more powdered sugar if needed.
Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Notes
For a tangier flavor, use less powdered sugar.
To make it stiffer for piping, add more powdered sugar or chill briefly before using.
Let chilled frosting come to room temperature and beat again before spreading.
