Units Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition until the frosting reaches your desired sweetness and consistency. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, then beat for another 1–2 minutes until light and fluffy. Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or refrigerate until ready to use.

Notes

  • Chill the frosting slightly before piping for cleaner detail.
  • If it’s too thick, add a teaspoon of milk at a time; if too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  • Let refrigerated frosting come to room temperature and rewhip before using.
