Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 tbsp orange juice or milk (to thin frosting if needed)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  3. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  4. Spread softened butter over dough. Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, chopped cranberries, and orange zest.
  5. Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 rolls.
  6. Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While rolls are baking, prepare the frosting by beating cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and orange juice or milk until smooth.
  9. Spread cream cheese frosting over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare the rolls the night before and bake them in the morning.
  • Frozen cranberries work well; just chop them while still frozen.
  • Adjust the amount of orange zest to your taste.
