Cowboy Butter

Cowboy Butter is a rich, flavorful compound butter made with herbs, garlic, and spices, perfect for enhancing steaks, grilled meats, vegetables, or used as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter with minced garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and lemon zest.
  2. Add smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Stir in chopped parsley and chives until well incorporated.
  4. Transfer the butter mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap and roll into a log, or place in a small bowl for serving.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Use as a topping for grilled meats, vegetables, or as a dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a milder version, reduce the amount of cayenne and red pepper flakes.
  • Can be made ahead and frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Great as a finishing touch on grilled steaks or roasted potatoes.
