Classic Margaritas

A refreshing, zesty cocktail made with tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur, perfect for sipping on warm evenings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • Coarse salt, for rimming glass
  • Lime wedge, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled rocks or margarita glass, then dip the rim in coarse salt to coat. Set aside.
  2. Fill a shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup (if using).
  3. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds, until well-chilled.
  4. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice (optional). Strain the margarita mixture into the glass.
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a sharper, more traditional taste, omit simple syrup or reduce to 1/4 oz.
  • Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor—avoid bottled juices.
  • To make a pitcher for entertaining, scale ingredients: for each 6 servings use 12 oz tequila, 6 oz lime juice, 6 oz orange liqueur, and 3 oz simple syrup.
  • Try variations: add fresh fruit puree (strawberry, mango) or use a smoked salt rim for depth.
  • To make a frozen margarita, blend ingredients with ice instead of shaking.
