Description

A warm and comforting classic bread pudding made with simple ingredients and topped with a rich vanilla sauce. Perfect for dessert or brunch.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • For the vanilla sauce:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Place cubed bread in the baking dish. If using raisins, sprinkle them over the bread.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, sugars, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread cubes. Let it soak for about 15 minutes.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  6. Meanwhile, make the vanilla sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together sugar and flour.
  7. Add heavy cream and butter, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5–7 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  9. Serve the warm bread pudding with the vanilla sauce drizzled over the top.

Notes

  • Use stale or day-old bread for best texture.
  • You can substitute raisins with chocolate chips or nuts.
  • The vanilla sauce can be stored in the fridge and reheated as needed.
